Veterans Football in semi final stage

Two former veterans champions VSADC and defending champions Vieux Fort South, are among the semi finalists for the 2013 Veterans Football Tournament along with first time veterans finalists Laborie and Anse La Raye.

All four teams booked their places in the semi finals after exciting quarter final victories at the Beausejour Cricket Ground at the weekend.

Saturday evening Laborie booked their semi final spot with a come from behind 3-2 win over Gros Islet. Laborie’s goals were converted by Justus St Aimee in the 20th minute, Norbert Cooper in the 72nd minute and a Keith St Clair own goal in the 86th minute gave them victory.  Mike Phillip in the 10th minute and Kevin Mortley in the 46th minute were the goal scorers for Gros Islet.

Also Saturday evening defending champions Vieux Fort South edged out Congorians 4-3, in one of the most exciting and well played matches for the 2013 Veterans Football tournament.

Guy Jn Baptiste with goals in the sixth and 31st minutes, Ernie Soudat in the 60th and Ellsburg Vital with the winner in the 88th minute converted for Vieux Fort South.

For Congorians prolific striker Kenton Vitalis scored two goals in the 20th and 75th minutes, taking his tally to six goals in the tournament, to make him joint top scorer so far in the tournament with Simon Evans of Micoud. Congorians’ other goal was an own goal in the 81st minute.

Sunday evening VSADC booked their semi final spot with a come from behind 3-2 win over Behind the College All Stars. Kerwin Peter in the fourth minute and former national captain Trevor Cadette in the 79th minute converted for Behind the College.  For VSADC their goals were scored by Felix Ullyses Mark in the 70th minute and a brace by former national midfielder Trevor “Flecky the General” Anderson. He struck a wonderful free kick in the 29th minute and a winning header in the 75th minute.

In the final quarter final match Sunday evening, Anse La Raye edged out Dennery All Blacks 1-0 courtesy of a fourth minute goal by former Guinness CYO prolific striker Hilary “Anse La Raye” Modeste.

In the semi finals scheduled for this coming weekend, Laborie comes up against VSADC and Vieux Fort South plays Anse La Raye. The times and date for the two semi final matches will be announced later by the tournament organizers.
