Only two matches were played at the weekend in the 2012 Veterans Football Tournament.
On Saturday afternoon at the Sab Sporting Facility a second half hat trick from Betram “Bottom” Ishmael led Caricom Masters to a comfortable three goals to nil win over Nyabinghi. His goals came in the 49th, 63rd and 71st minutes.
Sunday morning also at the Sab Sporting Facility, Congorians returned to winning ways after defeat in their first encounter to Vieux Fort South, as they completely outplayed Shamrock and defeated them seven goals to two.
Shamrock ironically scored first in the encounter in the 17th minute through Joseph Sealy. Byron “West” Gerson equalized for Congorians in the 29th minute. They went further ahead in the 39th minute, when Ian Jacobs converted for Congorians to lead 2-1 at half time.
Immediately at the resumption John Griffin equalized for Shamrock to make it 2-2. A minute after Kenton Vitalis scored for Congorians to make it three two triggering Congorians into high gear as they scored four more goals without reply from Shamrock. Adrian “Lua” Edward in the 51st, Kenton Vitalis again in the 58th,Raymond “Mo Mone” Moise in the 65th and Francis “Rata” Lambert in the 71st were the other goal scorers.
The tournament continues on Sunday with a whole day of matches at the Sab Sporting Facility. From 10.00 am Prophets and Kings versus Gros Islet Legends, from 12 noon Micoud Veterans vs Nyabinghi, 2:00 pm All Blacks Veterans vs Lancers FC, and from 4:00 pm Vieux Fort South vs Behind the College All Stars.
