Dr. Vincent Victor Edmonds St. Omer, 89, of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2023. He was born on November 16, 1934, in Castries, Saint Lucia, the son of Josephine Laurent.
Dr. St. Omer earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Toronto; his Master of Science in Animal Science from the University of Manitoba; and his PhD in Pharmacology & Toxicology from the University of Guelph.
Dr. St. Omer retired after twenty years as tenured professor of veterinary medicine from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. St. Omer later served as the founding Dean of the school of Veterinary Medicine & Faculty of Medical Science at the University of West Indies. He ended his professional career by serving as the Associate Dean and Full Professor at the Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine.
Dr. St. Omer was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Rotary Club of Columbia, Missouri, was active in the Minority Men’s Network Educational Foundation, and a longtime volunteer at Nora Stewart Memorial Nursery School in Columbia.
Dr. St. Omer is survived by his wife of sixty-one years Margaret of Columbia, his two daughters Ingrid of Columbia and Denise of Kansas City, Missouri, and his two sons Jeffrey of Kirkwood, Missouri, and Raymond of St. Louis. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Dr. St. Omer is succeeded in death by his mother (Josephine) and brother, Garth St. Omer. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Nora Stewart Memorial Nursery School.
