WASCO’s systems affected by heavy rain

The Water and Sewerage Company, Inc (WASCO) has shut off the water
supply to most of the southern part of the island as a result of heavy rain.  High turbidity, due to the overnight rain, is making the treatment of water in Micoud, Desruisseaux and Grace very challenging.

WASCO continues to operate a network of temporary systems, following the passage of Hurricane Tomas on October 20, 2010, especially in the south of the island.  The company is looking forward to the full implementation of its new strategic plan which will allow for the upgrade of the water infrastructure, including the rural systems.

Southern crews say the systems will be reopened after turbidity levels reach a manageable level and they are able to produce an acceptable quality of water.
