The Castries Football Council with assistance from title sponsors Eastern Caribbean Financial Holdings and the St. Lucia Electricity Services Limited, will commence the fifth edition of the ECFH-LUCELEC Youth Football League at the Sab Sporting Facility today (Saturday).
From its inception the tournament had the following objectives: to provide a means for young football players to compete using rules that complement their physical, psychological and mental competences; to influence and promote the development of youth tournaments; increase the involvement of youth players in football, especially in Castries and its environs; and improve the overall quality of these youth players.
Five years later evidence of the success of this initiative is very encouraging, as the Central Castries team in the 2013 SLFA Inter district Under 16 Champions and the Under 20 team reached the semifinal of the 2013 SLFA Inter District Under 20 tournament.
In recognition of these milestones the Council has invited two non affiliates in Marchand and Roseau Youth Academies to add flavor to this year’s tournament.
The 2013 Youth Football League caters for the following age divisions: Under 13, Under 15, Under 17, Under 20 (scheduled for early 2014).
The tournament kicks off at 10:00 am Saturday with a brief opening ceremony, followed by four Under 13 match-ups.
