Nanjing, China will be the venue for the 2014 Youth Olympics. Teenagers between the ages 14 and 17 from around the globe will compete for Olympic Gold in various sporting disciplines. Beach Volleyball is one of the disciplines. St Lucian teenagers have an opportunity to earn a spot at the games too. Much like other Federations around the world St Lucia is set to host a qualification tournament, to select teams to compete for a place in the 2014 Youth Olympics.
Moreover, St Lucia will host the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association’s (ECVA) Youth Olympic Qualification Tournament, October 2-7,2013. Teams from the Eastern Caribbean will come to St Lucia to get one of the vacancies available to this zone in both male and female divisions.
The St Lucia Volleyball Association (SLVA), is thus taking its preparation up a notch in preparation for these qualification tournaments. Try-outs and training will commence 5-16 August, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m, at the Beach Volleyball Courts at Choc Beach near the Wave Restaurant. Beach Volleyball coaches Hervon Brown and Florian Combie will lead the training sessions and all teenagers in that age range are invited to come learn to play beach volleyball.
Participants will have an opportunity to learn and get advice not only from the senior beach coaches, but they will also gain much experience and from world class players Julian Bissette and Joseph Clercent (Salt and Pepper). Players will then be selected for further training during the month of September when Brazilian Coach Café’ returns to the island for one month of intense volleyball coaching.
A local Elimination Competition will be hosted mid-September which will help the Association select players and teams to represent St Lucia at the ECVA Qualifier in October.
