The Autistic Society of Saint Lucia is gearing up to undertake a host of events in April to acknowledge Autism Awareness month. While April 2nd is the official day of awareness for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a calendar of events has been prepared that will run for the entire month. Events include a sponsored family day at Lushan Country Life Nature Park, a Mass intention and a fundraising mixer at the end of the month, to name a few.
One of the many highlights of the month will be the official book launch of Delia Samuel PhD who has written a book dedicated towards assisting and motivating parents of children with ASD.
The Book, Against the Odds; Inspiration for Parenting Children with Special Needs, has been launched in the US and UK and Dr. Samuel comes home to share it with her island.
Dr. Samuel, alongside other parents and medical professionals, will be conducting several media interviews during her stint here in the first week of the month and will make a public appearance at the Town Hall on Wednesday 6th April to meet parents and other citizens who have concerns and questions about ASD.
Dr. Samuel has been very proactive and dedicated to the autism awareness movement as she also is a mother of two children with ASD.
Her intention is to continue working with the parents in Saint Lucia through a charity called the Saint Lucia Autism Awareness Project.
The charity will take on several initiatives to aid families dealing with ASD and create an education awareness campaign for the Saint Lucian public.
