Today, March 17, marks two years since the passing of the island’s second Nobel laureate, Sir Derek Alton Walcott, who would’ve been eighty-nine this January. Today we remember his contribution to Saint Lucia and the world through his powerful words and plays that both adored and challenged the norms of paradise in which he lived. Sir Derek will always be remembered as a man who was sometimes brought to tears when he spoke of his hopes and dreams for his island.
